DOUG ROLLAND

Doug Rolland , arguably Balnarrings finest cricketer in our clubs 140 Year History. Doug played all his juniors at Balnarring, and it was not long before we seen a star born at the age of 14 with a 1st wicket partnership record broken in the MPCA…. a score of 169* (Rolland) & 129* (Ainsworth) was made in the Under 14s.

Years went on and Doug would debut in Balnarring’s 1st XI as a 16 year old in 1974/75

In 1978 Doug was a member of the inaugural knockout competition ( Jack Peacock Cup ) which Balnarring were Grand Finalist winners in.

Throughout the next decade we would see a Young 20 year old become a soul member of Balnarring’s Golden Era , District runners up in 1980/81 seen Balnarring bounce back in 1981/82 as District Premiers in the club’s Centenary Season.

Balnarring we’re back in Provincial Cricket and this seen the club play 3 consecutive Grand Finals in a row which the club were all unsuccessful in.

During the 81, 84, 85 season Doug was lucky enough to play in the MPCA Country Week which was toured by Sri Lanka

In 1986/87 Doug went on to play Grade Cricket at Northcote which the club was successful in winning the 1st XI Premiership

After Doug’s Season at Northcote he would return to Balnarring as Club Captain in the 1987/88 Season which seen the Club return to the Provincial 1st XI Grand Final which the club unfortunately lost also.

Doug’s sporting achievements were not only known on the cricket field. Doug was also known as a tough footballer at the Crib Point Football Club with 5 1st XVIII Best and Fairest awards and 1 Senior Premiership in 1985

The Balnarring Cricket Club is very proud to have Doug as a Player , Coach , Captain & Life Member. His Achievements with 9 Provincial 1st XI Centuries & excess of 8000 1st XI Runs is an achievement that the Balnarring Cricketing community honour as the Doug Rolland Best Player Award.
